We prioritise the well-being of our pupils and aim to create strong relationships where our pupils can openly discuss their thoughts and feelings and know that they will always be listened to and made to feel safe.

As we approach the end of KS1 we focus highly in ensuring that our Year Two pupils have all of the fundamental knowledge and skills to best prepare them for their transition into key stage two. Towards the end of the academic year all pupils within Year Two take part in formalised assessments. Our pupils do not realise they are taking formal assessments and consider this as part of their usual learning. We feel this is the best way to approach the assessments as we have found that children perform best when feeling happy and relaxed.  The pupils are assessed formally in the following areas; reading, writing and maths. Parents are invited to meeting at the beginning of the academic year called ‘New to Year Two Parents Meeting’ so that they can be as well informed about all of the information in relation to the academic year. Usually in July, when school reports are sent home, Parents receive information about how their child performed in the assessments.

The curriculum in Year Two has been designed with the assessments in mind using the national curriculum objectives. The children continue to learn through a range of topics which re-visit and build upon previous knowledge from Year One to provide the opportunity for our pupils to make links. Children will be exposed frequently to a variety of subjects including Maths, English, Art, Design Technology, Science, Music, PE, History, Religious Studies and Geography.

Below you will find curriculum letters and knowledge organisers for each topic. These documents outline what your child will learn each half term. It also outlines what a typical day looks like for our Year Two children and contact information for your child’s class teacher. You will also find a long term plan which outlines which topics your child will be learning about throughout the course of their academic year.
